An interesting phenomenon — as the natural landscape is manipulated
by man’s hand, existing mature trees are either sacrificed in the name
of progress or left as lone sentinels of a bygone forest. Often these
remnants of forest are simply ignored and seen as background foliage.
It’s not uncommon in the flat farmlands of California’s Central Valley to
see a single majestic Oak tree standing untouched amid a neatly furrowed
field. Without intent by the farmer, the tree is transformedinto a beautiful
abstract sculpture. This observation became the metaphor for an existing
50-year-old Oak tree standing proudly on the front site. Our tree must be
celebrated and warmly embraced—it is a “free” sculpture and homage to history.
