Tragedy to Opportunity 7.25 - Journal - Page 5
Our Clients’ Story
“After the fire and loss of the house, we
passed through the stages of healing—
denial, anger, bargaining, depression
and finally acceptance. Later we saw
the silver lining, rebuilding our new
home here could be a new chapter for
us where we could create a new set of
experiences and personal growth here on
the river. We realized that we could not
leave this place. We decided to make the
best of it—we embraced the pressure of
our loss as a privilege.
When we met Gary the first time he was
convinced that we would find that our
loss would become an opportunity—
a chance to design a one-of-a-kind
home that fits us with a more intimate
connection to the site. We thought he
was a bit overzealous, but he was right—
it was true. He carried us through the
raw emotions and supported and stood
by us, reminding us that it was going to
be okay. And we needed that.
With the old house now gone, the cleared
site feels completely new, we hardly
recognize the place, and it is exciting to
visualize the dramatic new design—it’s
become our unexpected dreamhouse—
it’s VERY cool and we love it! It is us.”
