“A Sense of Place”
MODERN
MEDITERRANEAN
FARMHOUSE
A VISION ROOTED IN PLACE
Nestled at the edge of Northern California’s rolling
oak foothills, where Gold Country meets the fertile
expanses of the Central Valley, a one-acre lot called
to its future owners. Surrounded by native oaks,
seasonal creeks, and a landscape reminiscent of the
Mediterranean, the lot’s natural beauty became the
foundation for an extraordinary home—one that
seamlessly connects site and landscape, much like an
old country farmhouse.
The owners, busy professionals with children in
college, dreamed of a “barefoot sanctuary” where
they could casually sip fine wine and feel at home
with nature. They envisioned a house that was both
elegant and relaxed, inspired by old-world charm yet
simplified with clean lines, minimal ornamentation,
and modern functionality.
A HOUSE THAT TELLS A STORY
Working closely with ORR Design Office, the
design team crafted a playful “storyline,” imagining
the home as if it had grown organically over
generations. The idea was simple yet profound: the
structure should feel as though it started modestly
and evolved into its current elegance over time.
