It seems that recycling trash and using energy efficient appliances
are the new millennium order. And selecting “green” showroom products
only goes partway. Think about an Olympic track and field athlete—their
entire body is optimized. But they really are “human machine designers.”
They live efficiently and waste little energy. A good gauge is the amount of
layers between their exterior and interior—thin enough jacket to stay warm,
low body fat means less mass and a smaller jacket means less wind drag, less
weight and lower energy requirements. They think with their head and heart.
They are sleek and beautiful. Designers of efficient and beautiful buildings or bodies
merge the best genetic (building) materials and healthiest (maintenance) practices.
They make their genes green! This is the essence of sustainable design and living.
